General Management is a music management and consulting firm run by Paul Mason, advising artists, organisations, government and industry clients on strategy, project management and business planning.

 

In addition to his work with General Management, Paul chairs the boards of the Peggy Glanville Hicks Composers House Trust and not-for-profit jazz label Earshift Records; and he is a director of artist residency property The Corridor Project.

Over a long career in music, Paul has worked in across numerous areas including live music presentation, broadcasting and government.

From 2009 - 2019 he was the Director, Music at the then Australia Council for the Arts, the national arts agency, where he led the design and implementation of government strategies and funding programs for music.

Earlier in his career he established the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project and held roles with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.​

Between 2004 - 2007 he was Chair of Music NSW, the state based contemporary music service organisation. He was a board member of Sydney’s Radio FBi 94.5 from its establishment to the year 2000 when the station was awarded its permanent broadcast licence

He has also held board roles with City Recital Hall, Sydney, Soundstream New Music and the Music Council of Australia.
